What we do
Six things, and we have stopped pretending otherwise. If it is not on this page we probably do not do it, and the page at the bottom about what we turn down is worth a read before you call.
Weekly mowing
April to October, same day each week, and the day is whatever day your street falls on in the route. Mow, edge, string trim and blow off. We run battery mowers on the residential routes where the lot allows it, partly because it is quieter at 7 in the morning and partly because the crew prefers it. Lots up to a quarter acre are 45 to 75 dollars per visit. A quarter to half an acre is 75 to 120 dollars per visit. Larger lots are quoted on site. We invoice the mowing monthly rather than per cut.
Spring and fall cleanup
Leaf and debris removal, bed edging, cutting back what needs it, and the first or last cut of the season. 250 to 600 dollars depending on lot size and how much material there is. Leaf removal on its own is not a thing we sell, it is part of the cleanup, so if you ring up asking what leaf removal costs the answer is the cleanup price.
Mulch installation
Shredded hardwood, delivered and installed, beds edged and the edges cut clean. 85 to 110 dollars per cubic yard installed. Most houses on our routes need three to eight yards. We do not sell mulch by the bag and we do not drop a pile on the drive and leave.
Mulch top up
This is the cheaper one and it is not the same job. A top up is a thin second coat over mulch that is still mostly there, no edging, no bed reshaping, existing weekly mowing customers only. 55 to 70 dollars per cubic yard. People confuse this with mulch installation on the phone constantly and then are surprised at the quote, so we will ask you which one you mean and we are not being difficult.
Hedge and shrub trimming
60 to 150 dollars per visit for a normal front and back. If the hedge has not been touched in four years it is not a trim, it is a reduction, and that gets quoted on site. Same for anything that needs a ladder taller than the one on the truck.
Aeration and overseed
Core aeration with a pull behind, then overseed, usually late August into October. 180 to 320 dollars. Worth it about every third year on the clay soil most of these lots sit on. Not worth it in July and we will tell you to wait.
Small hardscape
Paver patios, walkways and small retaining walls. 2,500 to 9,000 dollars for a typical residential job. Every hardscape job needs an estimate visit and a written quote, no exceptions, and jobs over 500 dollars need a 20 percent deposit before the start date. We do not do walls over three feet, we do not do anything with a footing or a permit, and we do not do pools or pool surrounds.
Things we turn down
Snow removal. Tree removal and tree climbing. Irrigation installation and sprinkler repair. Fencing. Chemical treatment and fertiliser programmes. Sod on anything steeper than a gentle slope. We do not keep referral partners and we will not recommend anybody, because the last time we did it went badly for everyone involved.
